On Lagos Spotlight, we move our lens around the towns of Lagos, sharing a history of the places, what the town is popularly known for, famous spots, and prominent people from the town. Today our spotlight hits the ancient town of Epe.
Epe is located on the north side of the Lekki Lagoon, with close proximity to Ijebu Ode, a traditional settlement of the Ijebu people. By the mid 18th century, the coastal town had become a chief port for Ijebu-Ode for the transportation of slaves, cloth, and agricultural produce.

Epe’s closeness to the lagoon makes the fishing town’s major occupation. Epe is also a collection place for fish exportation. Modern Epe has two communities; Eko Epe and Ijebu Epe both with individual monarchs.

Epe is also a Local Government Area (LGA) in Lagos state, and it is gradually becoming an area of choice for Lagosians because of its proximity to Lekki Peninsula.

There are popular places in Epe that make the town lively and enjoyable, especially if you plan on visiting, Epe Resorts and Spa and the Epe local market are some places to see.

The town becomes more fun during festivals; Eebi day, Kayo Kayo festivals, Epe day, and Ojude Oba.
There are prominent people from Epe such as; former governor of Lagos state – Akinwunmi Ambode, popular singer – Salawa Abeni, Dj Cuppy, Femi Otedola, Eniola Ajao, and others.

Epe is notable for housing campuses of The Lagos State University, Yaba College of Technology, Pan African University, and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education.
