The Lagos State Ministry of Education has closed Unic Vilos Montessori school after a toddler received 24 strokes of the cane.

Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo, confirmed the incident while speaking to Channels Television, stating that the ministry has ordered the school’s closure after verifying the story.

The decision, she said, follows the status of the school as operating without the approval of the Board.

According to Naija News, the mother of the victim, Faustina Ohamadike had shared the story online following threats from the school’s proprietress after she confronted the teacher who beat up her two-year-old.

The family of the victim reportedly lives in the same compound as the proprietress and the teacher who inflicted the strokes, a building opposite the school premises.

The commissioner stated that a combined team of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, the Domestic Violence and Response Unit, and the Ministry of Youths and Social Development followed up on the story and after confirming the truth, arrested both the teacher and proprietress on Monday.

As of now, the teacher is still in detention, while the proprietress was released earlier in the week.
