The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (PHCB) has organised a Career Progression Training for Community Health Workers (CHEW) at LCCI Nurudeen Olowopopo, Ikeja.
In his opening remarks at the event held recently,Dr. Abimbola Bowale, the Supervising Permanent Secretary of PHCB, highlighted the initiative as a testament to the Board’s dedication to excellence in public service delivery and the advancement of its frontline healthcare professionals.
Dr. Bowale emphasised the transformative power of knowledge, stating, “Knowledge is power”, and reiterated the Board’s commitment to fostering excellence in public service through such training initiatives.
Recognising CHEWs as essential frontline workers in promoting community health, Dr. Bowale affirmed the Board’s commitment to providing them with the necessary support and guidance to thrive in their careers.
Earlier in her welcome address, Mrs. Simbiat Sanusi Alaka, Director of Community Health Services at LSPHCB, described the training as a beacon guiding CHEWs towards excellence in public service.
She underscored the importance of continuous learning in the ever-evolving healthcare landscape, emphasising its indispensable role in career development.
Mrs. Sanusi Alaka noted that the training, conducted in partnership with the National Association of Community Health Workers (Lagos Chapter), aims to equip CHEWs with the knowledge, skills, and resources essential for navigating their careers effectively and making meaningful contributions to community health.
On his own part, Mr. Omotesho Samson, Chairman of the Association’s Lagos State Chapter, stressed the significance of access to information in career advancement.
He commended the Board for its commitment and pledged the Association’s unwavering support in ensuring the improvement of service delivery by CHEWs and their continued success in their professional journeys.
Also speaking, Dr. Tope Balogun, the Director, Planning Research and Statistics, PHCB, opined that Community Health Workers are an integral part of Primary Health Care, hence they need to step up their game and take their rightful position in the scheme of things.
