Poultry farmers in Aiyedoto Poultry Farm Estate in Lagos State have called on the Federal Government to intervene in the plight of farmers affected by avian influenza (bird flu) in 2021.

The call was made by the President of the group, Saliu Rasheed while receiving over 3,000 points of lay birds donated by the Lagos State government.

He said some farmers had died while waiting for the government’s intervention.

Rasheed further appealed that the compensation would strengthen the industry and guarantee employment opportunities for the population.

The president also urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to make more funds available to help farmers grow the industry and, in turn, contribute to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.

He, however, appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the state’s former Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, for their support, saying: “This will go a long way in ensuring the beneficiaries returns to business in earnest and support the growth of their business.”
