Lagos passport offices begin weekend operations

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has begun weekend operations at its Ikeja passport office in Lagos state. Rose Bukar, the new passport control officer, made this known in Lagos on Saturday, November 13.

It was reported that the passport office will be open on Saturdays and Sundays to help applicants get their passports faster.

Bukar went on to say that measures would be taken to improve the seamless and quick service provided to Nigerians.

She stated that the NIS intends to spend less time processing new passport applications and that steps will be implemented to guarantee that Nigerians receive a smooth and quick service.

According to the office’s Passport Control Officer (PCO), Ibrahim Liman, a deputy controller of immigration, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NISIkoyi )’s passport office in Lagos state generated 38, 280 international passports from June to October 2021. This he revealed on Monday, October 18 in Lagos. Adding that at the period under review,  29,984 32-page passports and 8,246 64-page passports were generated.

Meanwhile, NIS Acting Comptroller General Isa Jere Idris has caught several of the service’s officers.

Idris, who pretended to be an international passport applicant at the Lagos State Command, caught them when they offered to help him obtain the passports in a dubious manner. He revealed that he went to Ikoyi on an unannounced visit to confirm claims against immigration officers in Lagos State, particularly Ikoyi, Ikeja, and FESTAC town.
