The Conference of Local Government and Local Council Development Area (CONFERENCE 57) have referred to reports of a parallel congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state as an “exercise in futility”.
According to Kolade Alabi, Chairman of CONFERENCE 57, the presence of delegates from the APC headquarters and the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) puts a lie to the “shenanigans that were supposed to have taken place in other centres”.
According to him, all 57 local council chairmen and their executive members, as well as state executive members and members of the national and state assemblies, were present at the Onikan major congress centre.
He praised the APC members for holding a peaceful congress.
He praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, for going about making sure everything was in order.
The excellent planning and execution of the congress activities, according to Alabi, who is also the National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), is a testament to the high standard with which Lagos State always strives to leave a lasting impression and legacies for others to emulate.
He congratulated Cornelius Ojelabi, the new APC Lagos Chapter Chairman, and his team on their emergence.
Alabi, who is also the Chairman of the Bariga Council, praised the Adebayo Adelabu-led Lagos State Congress Committee for their outing.
The CONFERENCE 57 expressed trust in Ojelabi’s capacity to lead the party to greater heights and pledged to back the new executive.
