The Head of Service spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mr Samson Ajibade at the Grand Finale of the Y2021 Service Charter Week celebration held at Alausa, Ikeja, where some top government officials and establishments were recognized for their exemplary performance in discharging their duties as government representatives.
The Head of Service, speaking on the event’s theme, “A Tool for Achieving the Social Contacts Embedded in the T.H.E.M.E.S. Policy Agenda,” said that this year’s event highlights the necessity of effective and efficient service delivery for both government and the governed.
Princess Adenike Adedoyin-Ajayi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, also challenged the Chartered MDAs not to give up on their customer relations but to look for better ways to provide better services to Lagosians by adding value to the Public Service and the State as a whole.
In a paper presented at the event, Princess Adedoyin-Ajayi analyzed the role of both chartered MDAs and the expectations that service seekers have of the government, emphasizing that the purpose of the service charter document is to strike a balance between service providers and those seeking services.
The Director-General of OTCI, Mr Toba Otusanya, also stated that the annual service charter week provides an opportunity for the various chartered MDAs to reaffirm their commitment to effective service delivery, reappraise their performance in the previous year, and plan to improve on maintaining public confidence in good governance.
He added that the annual Service Charter week has proven to be an excellent platform for demonstrating the value of effective and efficient service delivery by institutionalizing excellence throughout the State Public Service over the years.
According to Otusanya, the grand finale of the event, which usually involves the presentation of awards of recognition to deserving individuals and MDAs, was aimed at encouraging healthy rivalry within the public service in order to meet the aspirations and expectations of Lagosians.
He explained that the Office acknowledges Mr Hazmat Ayodele Subair, Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, and Dr Abiodun Muritala, State Accountant-General/Permanent Secretary, State Treasury Office (STO), for their dedication and commitment to the implementation of the Service Charter in LIRS and STO, respectively.
