The Lagos State Government has promised to provide well-equipped laboratories for students as part of efforts to strengthen the application of technology among youths in the state.

The state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr Hakeem Fahm, made the promise, via a statement on Sunday, during an event organised by the ministry to commemorate the 2022 World Science Day for Peace and Development in Lagos.

Fahm said: “For any nation to grow, science must provide ways to strengthen the application of technology, especially in schools as the students are the leaders of tomorrow and our goal to achieve technological advancement can only be realized if we encourage the study of science subjects in all schools.

“The creative thinking capacity of our youths can be expressed and productively harnessed through encouragement, capacity building and maximization of potential and an enabling environment, as the state will not relent in its effort to provide well-equipped science laboratories in all schools.”

The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ibilola Kasunmu, noted that the state government has introduced the initiative of tackling the effects of carbon footprints through a school competition in which students will bring up initiatives to mitigate the effects of carbon.

The Chairman House Committee on Science and Technology, Olanrewaju Afinni, in his remarks, urged stakeholders to continue to maintain the objectives of World Science Day for Peace and Development through public awareness of the role of science in society.
