This event heralds the launch of several other classroom blocks across Lagos, aiming to transform the educational landscape.

The newly constructed and rehabilitated classrooms span across various schools in Lagos, including Awori Junior College in Ojo, Euba Junior High School in Mushin, Ipara Junior College in Majiyagbe, Mainland Junior Secondary School in Fadeyi, St. Luke Junior Secondary School in Bariga, State Junior High School in Ibereko (Badagry), and Thogli Community Grammar School in Badagry.
These projects reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education for Lagos students.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who conducted a drive-through inspection of the ultra-modern classrooms at Ajegunle Junior High School in Kosofe Local Government Area, reaffirmed that education is the cornerstone of his administration’s THEMES Plus agenda.
“Education is the engine that drives economic growth, reduces inequality, and empowers individuals to break the circle of poverty,” he said during the event.
He highlighted that investments in schools are investments in the socioeconomic fabric of local communities.
“These newly renovated and constructed facilities will serve as a catalyst for change, providing our children with the tools they need to compete in an increasingly globalized world,” Governor Sanwo-Olu added.
The new educational infrastructure includes the construction of a block of 18 classrooms, the renovation of existing structures, and the addition of modern facilities such as food canteens, Intro-tech blocks, and sports fields.
These facilities aim to provide an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and physically.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the construction and renovation of these schools not only improve educational quality but also create jobs, stimulating the local economy and providing livelihoods for workers involved in the projects.
“Moving forward, the improved infrastructure will enhance the quality of education and increase enrollment rates,” he stated. “This, in turn, will lead to a more educated and skilled workforce, capable of driving innovation and economic development in our state.”
Additionally, the new Intro-tech block will place a particular emphasis on technical education, equipping students with valuable skills for the modern workforce. This initiative is in line with the government’s commitment to fostering a well-rounded education system that prepares students for the demands of a rapidly changing world.
Hakeem Smith, the Chairman of the Special Committee on Repair of Public Schools, provided an overview of the projects.
He noted that the deplorable condition of several schools, including Keme Balogun Colleges, had been brought to the governor’s attention, prompting immediate action to restore and upgrade the facilities.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, commended the governor’s dedication to education, noting that the simultaneous inauguration of 16 new blocks of classrooms across Lagos is a testament to his administration’s commitment to providing top-quality education for all Lagosians.
As these new classroom blocks are inaugurated across the state, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision for an improved educational system continues to take shape, ensuring that the next generation of Lagosians is better equipped to lead in the global economy.
