The Lagos State Government is preparing to issue contravention notices to over 280 property owners and occupiers in the Mayegun Waterfront Scheme, Eti Osa Local Government Area.

These properties are accused of illegally encroaching on government land.

Affected individuals will be given a seven-day ultimatum to provide relevant documentation justifying their land occupation.

Hon. Yacoob Ekundayo Alebiosu, Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, revealed that during a recent inspection, 280 properties—comprising both completed and under-construction buildings—were found to be illegally occupying government land.

Of these, 208 were buildings at various construction stages, while 72 were undeveloped plots.

Property owners were urged to remove illegal structures voluntarily before the issuance of contravention notices.

Alebiosu highlighted that the Mayegun Waterfront Scheme, established in the 2000s, consists of three parcels: A, B, and C. Parcel B, which is currently under scrutiny, includes a mix of valid certificates of occupancy, excised villages, and illegally occupied land.

The Lagos government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal land encroachments, following similar crackdowns in Okun Ajah, where over 200 property owners were served notices last month.

The commissioner reaffirmed that the state will take appropriate action to end unlawful land occupation.
