The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFR) rescued an eight-year-old boy, Onyeka Umeh, from a pool at the end of Pastor Ojediran Street behind Oba’s Palace, Ejigbo, Lagos.
According to the agency, it immediately deployed the Ejigbo Fire Station and the Agency’s Rescue Crew to save the sinking boy from the canal after it was alerted on Tuesday.
The boy who was handed over to the police from Ejigbo Division was eventually made to reunite with the family.
Umeh was said to be picking plastic bottles among others around the canal alongside a friend. It was while doing this that Umeh sank and his companion raised the alarm, leading to his eventual rescue.
Speaking on the issue, the Director of the Agency, Margaret Adeseye, urged parents to keep a close tab on their children and wards, as well as provide much-needed guidance for their safety.
