The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has urged Nigerians to shun anger and hatred, just as he advised them to support their leaders towards the development of the country.
Hamzat, made this statement while observing the Eid-el-Fitri prayer at Dodan Barracks Praying Ground, Obalende, Lagos, urged citizens to relate with one another with the fear of God rather than wallow in anger, hatred and bitterness which do not augur well for the country.
In a statement issued by the state, Hamzat was quoted as saying to the government, ”We should get down to work and look away from anger and think of how to make the country work with our leaders.”
Speaking further, the deputy governor urged leaders to bear in mind that governance is a stewardship that would be accounted for on the last day.
He, therefore, charged them to do their best in ensuring that they enhance the living condition and well-being of Nigerians.
He said: “As leaders, we all should do well and know that it is everyone that will give an account of how they have lived their lives and it is high time that we all did our best well as parents, leaders and citizens.”
In his congratulatory message to Muslims on the completion of Ramadan, Hamzat urged them to always put into practice the lessons learnt during the period.
He also advised them to have compassion and love for everyone and to understand that at the end of the day, everyone would give an account of their stewardship in life.
Earlier in his sermon, the Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaimon Abu-Nollah, urged political leaders to always remember that being elected into office is a divine call and as such they should deliver on their mandate accordingly and with the fear of God.
