Lagos community seeks health centre, school

The Exclusives Community Development Association, Selewu, in the Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, has appealed to the state government to “bring government presence and development” to its domain.

The Chairman of The Exclusives CDA, Pastor Akin Arowolo, made the appeal in a chat on Tuesday on the sidelines of the community’s praise night held annually on December 26.

Arowolo urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-OLu and well-meaning Nigerians to help establish a health centre and a public school within the community.

“In 2020, during this annual praise night, we prayed to get our own electricity transformer to help us end the era of epileptic power supply. We followed up with a series of letters and appeal to the government and some well-meaning Nigerians.

“In 2021, our prayers were answered when Honourable Babajimi Benson of the House of Representatives gave us a transformer.

“We also prayed that our road should be fixed. We thank God and greatly appreciate Honourable Jimi Benson, who, during the inauguration of the transformer he gave us, promised to fix our road. I can tell you that work has begun on the road as mapping was recently done and we have been assured that the contractor will move to the site any moment from now.

“We are, however, appealing to Governor Sanwo-Olu to bring his government’s presence to our community. As big as Selewu is, we do not have a health centre or a government school. The nearest health care centre to us is many kilometres away and in the case of an emergency, patients may not make it there alive.

“We appeal to the governor to let us enjoy the dividends of democracy under his government like other areas in the state. We appeal to well-meaning Nigerians too to come to our aid,” the CDA chairman said.
