The Management and Staff of Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL) have been commended for their exceptional efforts in transforming the transportation landscape of Lagos State and successfully bridging the gap in the state’s transportation system.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, gave this commendation on Friday during a fitness walk and health check organized by LBSL for its staff as part of activities marking its five years of operation in the state.
He highlighted that since its inception, the transportation company has prioritized customer satisfaction, ensuring that passengers enjoy reliable, safe, and efficient transit services.
Osiyemi stated, “The company’s dedication to enhancing public transport experience and service delivery has not only improved daily commutes but also set a new standard in the industry.”
He emphasized the importance of transportation within the THEMES Plus Agenda of the current administration due to its critical role in the movement of goods, services, and people. Osiyemi assured that the state government will continue to review its transportation architecture to meet the demands of the growing population through sustainable and well-integrated public transportation.
He urged LBSL staff to be more resourceful and committed to their duties by maintaining top-notch customer service and good interpersonal relationships with Lagosians.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Wale Musa, also acknowledged the organization’s achievements within its few years of existence. He urged the management and staff not to become complacent but to strive to surpass their current success, saying, “Lagosians expect much more from the company.”
Earlier, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LBSL, Idowu Oguntona, disclosed that the company has covered over 27 million kilometers and provides mobility for 60,000 Lagos residents daily.
Oguntona revealed, “The company, which started with just five routes in 2019, now boasts over 30 routes due to the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.” He also noted that the fleet of buses has increased from 50 in 2019 to 300 today, reflecting the governor’s promise of providing reliable, efficient, and safe public transportation.
Speaking further, Oguntona shared that LBSL has transported more than 52 million people in five years and that Lagos residents can expect wider coverage of the company’s operations in the coming years.
“In line with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for a clean and green economy, public transportation will be running on clean energy, leveraging our substantial gas resources to power our buses. We have started a pilot with the private sector under the leadership of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to assess how these buses perform in our environment,” he noted.
