Lagos Assembly reject 17 commissioner nominees

The Lagos State Assembly on Wednesday declined to clear 17 out of the 39 commissioner nominees presented by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his second term in office.

Out of the 17 declined nominees, six served under the first term of Governor Sanwo-Olu, they include former commissioner of information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, former commissioner of health, Akin Abayomi.

Former commissioner of Women’s affairs and poverty alleviation, Cecilia Dada, former commissioner of energy resources, Olalere Odusote, former commissioner of education, Folashade Adefisayo, and former commissioner of economic planning and budget, Sam Egube. Others who also served are Solape Hammond and Aramide Adeyoye.

The state parliament during plenary cleared only 22 nominees after the conclusion of yesterday’s screening.

Controversy has trailed the list of nominees submitted by Governor Sanwo-Olu in late July. Muslim societies have argued that the list has just eight Muslims and 31 Christians.

The uncleared commissioner nominees are

17. Folashade Adefisayo
