The Lagos State Government has provided an update on the ongoing repairs of the Third Mainland Bridge, informing motorists of significant progress on the Island-bound section.
The bridge, a critical infrastructure in Lagos, is currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation overseen by the Federal Ministry of Works.
Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, issued a statement outlining the next phase of the repair works. Starting from Thursday, 22nd February 2024, traffic will be rerouted through the Iyana Oworonshoki, heading towards Lagos Island, on the bridge.
This diversion is part of the strategic traffic management plan to facilitate the ongoing repair works.
Commissioner Osiyemi clarified the current traffic arrangements, ensuring continuity until the project’s completion. “For clarity, the bridge will be accessible from Mainland to Island from 12 midnight to 12 noon. Conversely, the route from Island to Mainland will be open from 1 pm to 12 midnight,” he stated.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by the rehabilitation process, Osiyemi commended the public for their patience and understanding.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation with traffic management officials who are deployed to the affected routes.
Their role is crucial in managing the traffic flow, thereby ensuring smooth mobility and reducing the inconvenience caused by the ongoing construction works.
