The proposed budget consists of ₦312 billion allocated to capital expenditure, while ₦236 billion is designated for recurrent expenses, achieving a projected capital-to-recurrent ratio of 57:43.

Governor Yusuf emphasised that most capital funds, totalling ₦461 billion, will be directed toward social and economic sectors to drive impactful developments.

With a major emphasis on education, the sector received a “lion’s share” of ₦168 billion, surpassing the funding recommendations by UNESCO and the United Nations, and constituting 31% of the budget.

Yusuf highlighted that this investment will support policies ensuring quality education at all levels across the state.

The Health sector also received substantial support, with an allocation of ₦90 billion, representing 16.5% of the total budget.

This funding aims to improve healthcare access and services for Kano’s residents.

Infrastructure development, a key component of the governor’s plan, received ₦70 billion, or 12.87% of the budget.

Additionally, ₦21 billion (3.83%) is earmarked for agricultural advancements to drive food security and rural growth.

Security, Justice, and Emergency Services were allocated ₦23 billion, representing 4%, while Water Supply and Rural Development projects received ₦27 billion, or 4.96%, to ensure continued access to essential services in both urban and rural areas.

Governor Yusuf urged Kano’s lawmakers to pass the budget promptly, enabling the state to maintain a January-December fiscal cycle and continue delivering essential services to citizens.

Speaker Jibrin Falgore assured the governor of the legislature’s commitment to a swift review and passage, commending the administration’s commitment to infrastructure, security, health, and education improvements.

The Kano 2025 budget proposal underscores a commitment to comprehensive growth, focusing on sectors vital to economic stability and citizen welfare, and is set to shape Kano’s development agenda in the coming year.
