The new Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Idowu Owohunwa, is set to visit the scenes of the early morning protests that broke out along Lagos-Ikorodu road on Friday.

A source within the police said the CP is currently on his way to the Mile 12 area of the state.

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, when asked, also confirmed that the CP would visit the affected areas today, adding that his first stop would be Mile 12.

Lagospost had reported that protests had broken out in many areas across Lagos on Friday morning.

Lagos-Ikorodu Road to Agege, Iyana-Ipaja, Epe and the Igando areas of the state have all recorded protests over the naira scarcity and the inability by Nigerians to access the new notes.

Also, it was reported that vehicular movement along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was grounded following a protest that broke out in the Mowe area of Ogun State after many angry Nigerians took to the expressway to register their displeasure over the naira crisis.

The President, Muhammadu Buhari, had in a national broadcast said the old N500 and N1,000 notes were no longer legal tender in the country, but extended the validity of the old N200 note for 60 days, till April 10, 2023.
