Barcelona has officially named Hansi Flick as their new manager.
The German replaces Xavi after the former was sacked by the club at the end of the season.
The Catalan club in a statement said, “FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the German to become men’s first team football coach until 30 June 2026.
“The new coach has signed a contract at the Club’s offices accompanied by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta.”
Flick has been out of a job since September 2023 after he was sacked for bad results from the German national team.
He led Bayern Munich to a historic sextuple in 2020.
The 59-year-old has been linked with the job since Xavi announced in January he would depart at the end of the season.
Lagospost reported that Barcelona sacked Xavi for comments he made about the club’s economic difficulties. This was after he persuaded the former captain to stay back in April,
Last week, after winning his final game against Sevilla in La Liga, Xavi advised Flick, “It won’t be easy at all — they will suffer and they will need patience because it’s a really difficult job,”
“The only thing that can save them is winning, whether they have been part of the club or not.”
Barcelona finished second in La Liga this season and were knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals by Paris Saint-Germain.
