Dr Tokunbo Pearse, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and chairmanship aspirant in Lagos State, has stated that his main goal is to rebrand the party and win the state for the first time for the party.

During an interview, Pearse revealed that he applied for the role because he wanted to improve the party’s standing in the state.

The PDP leader stated that he is not being sponsored by anyone or any faction within the party.

“People said that the state chairmen we had so far were imposed by some leaders. What I am trying to do and with my experience and contact generally, I have been cordial with all the leaders, and I do not have the image that somebody is going to impose me, so I will work with everybody from the grassroots to the local government, to the state, zone and the national body.”

Pearse stated that he had previously worked with most of the party’s leaders and members and that they believe he is independent enough to be fair to all.

“Therefore I will be able to unite the party effectively and get ready for election victories,” Pearse said.

Shedding more light on the impression that the PDP is dead in Lagos state, he said, “We have a vibrant APC led by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the governors are just his appendages. Really, you have a party that has been in power for over 20 years since the return of a democratic dispensation.

“The APC is entrenched in Lagos, and the party is a national party now, but the power of APC, the epic centre of APC is here in Lagos, that is why the PDP which is the opposition party in the state has been marginalised in Lagos because of the power of the APC”.
