In a distressing incident in the Gbagada area of Lagos, a woman was found stabbed to death in her apartment at 29, Kiniun-Ifa Street, Sawmill.
The suspected perpetrator, a house help known only as Peter, is currently at large, leaving the community in shock. The discovery of the woman’s body was made by her son during a visit on Saturday, March 9.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, shared that the victim’s son found her lifeless on the staircase, covered in blood, with a long piece of wood nearby that is suspected to be the murder weapon. The condition of the body suggested that the murder might have occurred several days before its discovery.
Further investigations revealed that the househelp, Peter, had only started working for the victim a week before the incident. A relative of the agent responsible for hiring Peter has been apprehended, though the agent remains untraceable.
Attempts to communicate with the victim’s son were unsuccessful due to his profound distress over the loss. Local law enforcement from Ifako Police Division responded to the scene and have since transferred the body. Divisional Police Officer Owolabi Sefunmi directed inquiries to the Lagos State Police Command.
Upon contacting SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Public Relations Officer, it was confirmed that the househelp has been arrested and is now in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Panti, for further investigation. This heinous crime has once again highlighted concerns over the safety and vetting of domestic workers in the area.
