Governor Umo Eno plans town-hall meetings across Akwa Ibom’s 10 Federal Constituencies to engage communities and empower local businesses

Governor Umo Bassey Eno of Akwa Ibom State has unveiled plans for an extensive tour of the state’s 10 Federal Constituencies in the new year.

This initiative is set to involve town-hall meetings held twice a month across various constituencies, offering a platform for direct engagement with the people of Akwa Ibom.

The Governor revealed the plan during the recently concluded Ministerial Briefing, held from 16th to 18th December 2024, as part of his commitment to ensuring effective communication with constituents and promoting the goals of his administration.

The town-hall meetings are set to be a significant part of the Governor’s efforts to connect with the people and provide updates on the implementation of the Arise Agenda, which encompasses various developmental projects across the state.

These include the successful completion of Phase One of the One Project per Local Government Area initiative, where projects such as Model Schools, Model Healthcare Centres, and road construction have already been completed in several Local Government Areas (LGAs).

Governor Eno’s administration is deeply committed to rural development, and the Federal Constituency tours will offer an opportunity for residents to provide feedback on these projects and highlight any challenges faced in their implementation.

In addition, the Governor noted that some projects had been delayed in certain areas due to disagreements over project selection or issues with the siting of facilities.

He expressed hope that the tours would provide a chance for stakeholders to openly discuss these issues and encourage transparency.

The One Project per Local Government Area initiative was launched after extensive consultations with critical stakeholders from all 31 LGAs, who helped identify the most pressing needs for their respective communities.

Governor Eno reassured the public that the administration is keen on addressing any delays in project completion, stressing that funding has not been a constraint but that local disagreements have sometimes hampered progress.

In addition to developmental updates, the town-hall meetings will include a special focus on empowerment, particularly for local businesses.

Governor Eno has introduced a unique business support programme in which local entrepreneurs with established businesses employing at least ten people can apply for financial assistance.

Successful applicants will receive a sum of five million Naira to support and expand their enterprises.

This initiative is part of Governor Eno’s broader commitment to promoting economic growth in the state.

The Governor has already launched several programs to empower local businesses, including a 2 Billion Naira grant to traders across the state, as well as training and financial support for over 1,200 men and women through the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Center (Ibom-LED).

Furthermore, the Governor has partnered with the Bank of Industry (BOI) to offer single-digit interest loans to entrepreneurs, facilitating the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Akwa Ibom.

Governor Eno has reiterated that his administration is results-driven, with a focus on delivering tangible outcomes that improve the lives of the people.

The upcoming town-hall meetings will give constituents the opportunity to interact directly with their Governor, ensuring that the administration remains accountable to the public and continues to address their needs.

With the support of his administration, Akwa Ibom State is experiencing a period of significant growth, particularly in rural areas.

Governor Eno’s vision for inclusive development is shaping the state’s future, and the Federal Constituency tours will serve as a vital tool in maintaining open communication with the people.
