Matthew Perry, popularly known as Chandler Bing in the US hit TV sitcom Friends, has died at 54.
Although an official cause of death is yet to be released, the actor’s representative and police said Perry died in an apparent drowning at his home in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles.
Tributes have been pouring in for the late actor who played Chandler in all 10 seasons of Friends from 1994 until 2004.
Producers of Friends, Warner Bros Television Group in their tribute described him as “an incredibly gifted actor”.
“The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans,” it wrote.
Perry was born in 1969 to an American father and a Canadian mother in Massachusetts.
Perry for a long time was faced with addiction. In 1997, he became addicted to pain medication after a jetski accident and later claimed he doesn’t remember three years of his time on Friends.
“I was taking 55 Vicodin a day, I weighed 128lbs, I was on Friends getting watched by 30 million people – and that’s why I can’t watch the show, because I was brutally thin,” he said.
Perry never got married nor have kids till his death.
