Former security staff remanded for stealing boss’ phone

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, has ordered the remand of a former security staff member of the Panda Event Complex, Moses Adeniyi, for stealing the phone of his boss, Ifeanyi Okafor, at their office in the Sabo, Yaba area of the state.

It was learnt that a case of a missing phone was reported to the Lagos State Police Command who arrested and arraigned the suspect before Magistrate P.E Nwaka on two counts of theft.

The police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the offences were contrary to Section 280(1) and punishable under Sections 168(d), and 287(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

The charge read in part: “That you, Moses Adeniyi, on January 17, 2023, around 1 pm, at the Panda Events Complex, no 12 Commercial Avenue, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal one Samsung phone with two sims valued at N105,000, property of one Ifeanyi Okafor, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280(1) and punishable under Section 287(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges.

The magistrate ordered the remand of the defendant to the correctional centre pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

The case was adjourned till April 5, 2023, for facts and sentencing.
