In the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday, Nigeria dropped five places to become 40th in the world and 6th in Africa.

The Super Eagles have had a bad sun in their last five games, winning only one. They also failed to move past the knockout stage at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and their failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar made them drop over 13 points from 1494.32 in the last ranking to 1480.8.

Nigeria is now behind Russia, which has not participated in any competitive football since the ban placed on the country for the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

In Africa, the Central African Republic are the biggest climber with 10 ranks on the back of successive wins that led them to their first-ever AFCON appearance.

Globally, Argentina with 1840.93 points climbed to the top of the ranking for the first time in over six years.

They are followed by the 2022 World Cup finalist, France who lost to the Argentine with 1838.45. In third position is Brazil with 1834.21, Belgium with 1792.53 points and England with 1792.43 points completing the top five ranks.
