The federal government has revealed intentions to transform the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) into a revenue-generating entity.
The Minister of Youth Development, Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, announced while appearing on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics broadcast.
The minister further revealed that the federal government is working on overhauling the NYSC plan to suit the current circumstances of the nation.
She went on to say that they were all aware that resources were running out, and that they would come up with new ways to ensure that corps members’ well-being was prioritised.
“The reforms will transform the NYSC into a revenue-generating agency and prepare the corps members for the job market and to be decently and gainfully employed or to be employers of labour through entrepreneurship all the support they need in that career path.”
She also said that corps members had been removed from states considered hazardous as a result of the country’s deteriorating security situation.
The minister stated that security for corps members necessitated coordination with other government authorities.
