Elon Musk could become the world’s first trillionaire – Analyst

Elon Musk could become the world’s first trillionaire, according to a forecast by an analyst from investment firm Morgan Stanley.

This, however, will not come from Tesla. Instead, it is likely to come from his fledgling space startup SpaceX.

This is despite Tesla’s net worth being roughly $850 billion, nearly 30 times the $30 billion price tag of SpaceX.

Tesla became America’s most valuable automaker in 2020, dwarfing veterans like Ford and General Motors, while SpaceX is still privately traded.

According to the analyst, Adam Jonas, SpaceX’s reusable Starship rockets, which could carry people and cargo to the Moon and Mars, had the potential to change investors’ expectations in the space industry.

He said: “As one client put it, ‘talking about space before Starship is like talking about the internet before Google.’”

Jonas estimates that privately-owned SpaceX is valued at $ 200 billion (£145bn), and rise higher as it expands into different potential industries, including space infrastructure, Earth observation and deep-space exploration.

The company was valued at $100 billion in a secondary share sale this month, making it the second-largest privately held company in the world, after the internet company ByteDance.

Musk owns about 48% of SpaceX, with his private fortune recently rising to $222 billion, expanding his lead as the world’s richest person, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
