Education District celebrates best UTME candidate in Lagos

The Lagos State Education District II, Maryland recently celebrated Dejo Osejoro Segbenu, a science student of Lanre Awolokun High School, Gbagada, for his performance at the just concluded 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Dejo Osejoro Segbenu, who is the Assistant Headboy of the School, scored 352 ahead of other students who sat for the examination in the State.

The breakdown of the result showed that he scored 94 in Mathematics 98 in Chemistry, Physics 96 and 64 in English making him the best in Lagos State.

The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS), Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, speaking during her congratulatory visit to Lanre Awolokun High School, Gbagada, stated that the reason for the celebration of Dejo’s performance is to underscore the positive impact of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu efforts and investment in the education sector.

“The UTME Best Result candidate is being celebrated to encourage others to improve on their efforts. I must, however, commend the teachers and the entire Education District II family for their dedication to service”, she stated.

She urged Dejo to remain focused and remember his background, school and Lagos State Government for the roles they played in his success in the examination.

Adekanye charged other students to always be the best in their endeavours, saying that the joy of the teachers is to see their students succeed in life, just as she commended the school management for the outstanding results from the school in recent times.

She said, “My joy knows no bounds especially on the success and achievement of the district as recorded so far. The District is known for good results and achievements such as winning Best Teacher Award in the State, Best Artisan Award, Best Student Award, including the best WAEC result and winning the Spelling Bee Competition, with the prize of becoming the One-Day Governor among others”.

The Principal of Lanre Awolokun High School, Gbagada, Mr. Bayo Onifade thanked the TG/PS of Education District II for the visit. He commended the student and his teachers for their efforts while encouraging other students to emulate the excellent performance of Dejo.

The mathematics teacher of the school, Mr. Awoyemi Remilekun said, “Dejo is a diligent and hardworking student who is always eager to know more. He had attempted several Jamb past questions and would always come to him to seek help in areas that are not so clear”.

Dejo Osejoro Segbenu, while speaking, said he achieved the remarkable feat because he gave priority to hardwork and diligent study.
