Canadian superstar Drake has lost a $300,000 bet he placed on his home country to defeat Argentina in the Copa America semifinal.
Drake was anticipating a payout of $2,880,000 if Canada had advanced, but they were defeated 2-0 by the reigning world champions at New York’s MetLife Stadium on Tuesday night.
Goals by Lionel Messi and Manchester City’s Julián Álvarez secured Argentina’s spot in the final of the tournament.
Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, while sharing his bet slip on Instagram, Drake wrote, “This could get Messi @stake.”
Argentina will now face the winner of today’s semifinal clash between Uruguay and Colombia in the final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Sunday, July 14.
Canada, meanwhile, will compete in the third-place playoff against the loser of that fixture.
