Four electricity distribution companies have announced a tariff increase from N206.80 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to N209.5 per kWh for premium customers under the Band A category. The DisCos stated in separate announcements on Wednesday that the new rates took effect on July 1 and apply to both prepaid and postpaid customers.

Kaduna DisCo, in a notice posted on X, assured its Band A feeder customers of a continued 20-24 hours daily supply as stipulated in the service-based tariff regime. The firm also confirmed that tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.

Similarly, Port Harcourt DisCo reiterated the guaranteed availability of a minimum of 20 hours per day for its Band A customers, with no changes to the tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E.

Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) Plc stated, “While tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged, we remain steadfast in our drive to serve all our customers efficiently.”

Ikeja Electric explained that the tariff increase aligns with the service-based tariff regime. “Kindly note the review in tariff of Band ‘A’ feeders from N206.80/kWh to N209.5/kWh effective 1st July 2024 in line with the service-based tariff regime,” the company said. “The tariff for Bands B, C, D, and E remains unchanged.” Ikeja DisCo also noted that this adjustment would help sustain the improved service delivery across all feeder bands within its network.

Previously, on May 6, DisCos announced a reduction in the tariff for Band A customers to N206.80 per kWh, following a hike approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on April 3, which raised the tariff to N225 per kWh from N66. Customers in this classification receive 20 hours of electricity supply daily.
