Delta Air Lines has announced the introduction of local Nigerian dishes on its Lagos-Atlanta flights, offering passengers a taste of traditional Nigerian cuisine alongside international fare.
The move aims to enhance the travel experience for passengers, particularly those flying in the Delta One premium cabin.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the airline confirmed that Nigerian delicacies, including the popular Ewa Agoyin, would be added to its meal options.
Delta promised to provide a luxurious and culturally enriched travel experience, focusing on both comfort and diverse culinary offerings.
“This holiday season, passengers can indulge in a delectable range of continental and Nigerian-inspired culinary delights designed to satisfy a variety of tastes while flying,” the airline said, highlighting the integration of local flavours into its premium service.
As part of the exclusive Delta One experience, passengers will be treated to a carefully curated menu.
Upon take-off, Delta One travellers can choose from a selection of appetisers such as sliced beef fillet with pineapple salsa, sweet chilli sauce, refreshing corn soup with toasted corn salsa, or a mixed greens salad with spicy lemon dressing.
The course is completed with a sunflower roll served with whole butter.
In addition to the starters, Delta Air Lines is enhancing its in-flight dining by serving food twice during the flight.
The main course will feature a mix of traditional Nigerian dishes and international options, catering to a wide range of tastes.
Passengers can opt for roasted cod with basmati rice, Ewa Agoyin beans, and sweet plantains or grilled chicken thigh with jollof rice and plantain.
A plant-based alternative, featuring a hearty bean stew with rice, spinach, tomatoes, and fried onions, is available for vegetarians.
For dessert, Delta offers a variety of sweet options, including a pineapple upside-down tart with whipped cream, a fresh seasonal fruit assortment, a classic ice cream sundae, and a refined fruit and cheese plate.
These options ensure that every passenger has a delightful end to their meal.
As the flight approaches its descent into Atlanta, Delta One passengers will be treated to a final meal, which includes spicy chicken pie, a vegetable salad with zesty lemon dressing, and mini desserts.
A vegetarian alternative is also available, featuring jollof risotto with roasted vegetables and spicy tomato sauce, paired with fresh fruit and mini desserts.
This move by Delta comes on the heels of a directive issued in October 2024 by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, urging foreign airlines to patronise local caterers for onboard meals.
This directive, which takes effect from January 1, 2025, aims to boost local caterers and promote Nigerian cuisine on international flights.
The introduction of Nigerian dishes marks a significant shift in in-flight dining, reflecting Delta Air Lines’ commitment to offering a more culturally inclusive and luxurious experience for passengers travelling between Lagos and Atlanta.
