The Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State is scheduled to hear a suit involving the request for a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test for Liam, the son of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known professionally as Mohbad. T
his update comes from a statement released by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the Aloba family’s legal team.
Joseph Aloba, the deceased singer’s father, had initiated legal action, seeking a DNA test to determine the paternity of his grandson, Liam. The court case, filed under the title “Joseph Aloba v Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba,” is set for mention at the Family Court of the Ikorodu Magistrate Court (MKD/31/FAM/2024).
In the statement titled ‘Aloba family seeks court order for DNA test on Liam,’ Odumosu explained that the family has put in place all the necessary legal mechanisms for the success of the matter.
The primary request is for the court to order a DNA test to be conducted at a recognized and accredited medical facility within Lagos State, at the expense of the applicant.
The family, represented by Mohbad’s father, is also seeking a court order directing Mrs. Omowunmi Aloba to present herself and Liam for the DNA test. Additionally, the application includes a request for permission to obtain samples from Mohbad’s remains, currently at the Military Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, for the DNA test.
However, the legal team faced a setback when an attempt to serve court documents to Mohbad’s wife at her Lekki home on Friday, March 8, was unsuccessful. The process server reported that she had not been recently seen at the residence.
The legal team is now considering alternative methods to ensure that the court processes are legally served on her.
This legal development follows the untimely death of Mohbad on September 12, 2023, under what was described as unusual circumstances.
