Eighteen persons have been charged and convicted for reckless waste disposal by an Ikoyi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The court imposed a fine of ₦30,000 each on the defaulters.
The Commissioner of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab disclosed via a post on his X handle.
According to Wahab, the court issued an option of six hours of community service to the defaulters.
This is the latest conviction of environmental offenders in the state as the government continues to crackdown on environmental defaulters.
On Thursday, 19 October, a Lagos State Magistrate’s court sitting in Oshodi fined 10 residents convicted for environmental offences.
The environmental defaulters were fined various sums of money by Magistrate Daniel Njokwu upon their conviction.
Also, on Wednesday 25 October, 26 people were sent to undergo community service for engaging in reckless waste disposal in areas of Lagos State as imposed by the Court.
A Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Magistrate Court, sitting in Ikoyi, has also given them the option of a ₦30,000 fine per person.
