After months of competing against some of Nigeria’s best performers and vocalists who auditioned for the ninth season, Chima Udoye emerged victorious at the finale of the Nigerian Idol Season 9 on Sunday night.

The intense finale episode began with the top 10 contestants performing John Legend’s “Glory” on stage, followed by performances from past winners. Progress, the Nigerian Idol Season 7 winner, performed alongside the Bigi Idol winner. Victory Gbakara, the Nigerian Idol Season 8 winner, performed an original song he wrote before his finale. The night featured guest performances from artists such as Chike and Simi, along with the top three finalists. The highlight of the evening came when Udoye was crowned the winner.

Udoye is celebrated for his onstage charisma and vocal talent, consistently leaving judges 9ice, Omawumi, and Ric Hassani speechless with every performance. During the finale, Omawumi noted that Udoye competed with himself, a testament to his growth and capabilities beyond the competition’s boundaries.

Specialising in jazz and soul music, Udoye had expressed his hope at the beginning of the show to showcase his vocal prowess and use the Nigerian Idol platform to inspire others. Twelve weeks later, he has achieved his goal by being crowned the winner.

During her speech at the finale, Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content & Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, praised Udoye for his resilience in achieving this position.

Udoye was awarded N30 million, a brand new SUV, DStv Explora, and a one-year premium subscription. The grand prize also includes a music deal and a music video.
