The Super Eagles stranded in Libya faced a harrowing ordeal after their flight was unexpectedly diverted to Al Abraq International Airport.
Originally scheduled to land in Benghazi for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, the Nigerian football team’s aircraft was rerouted, leaving the players stranded for over 12 gruelling hours.

Despite this, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has remained silent, offering no clarification or condemnation of the Libyan authorities’ actions.
Nigerian officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, confirmed that efforts are ongoing through the Nigerian Mission in Libya to address the situation.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed concern and decided to pull the *Super Eagles* from the qualifier match.
Frustration mounted as players, including goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and forward Victor Boniface, took to social media to share their ordeal.
Nwabali highlighted the lack of food, water, and internet, while Boniface called for urgent intervention.
Fans and netizens have also expressed their outrage, demanding CAF’s swift action to resolve the issue and ensure the safe return of the Super Eagles.
