The incident sparked outrage on social media, with many labelling the Grammy-winning artist as the most arrogant Nigerian performer.

However, Burna Boy has since clarified his actions, citing personal reasons for his reaction.

Taking to his Instagram story on Wednesday evening, the “Last Last” hitmaker explained that the encounter triggered his post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a condition he has openly acknowledged in the past.

He warned fans to respect his boundaries during performances.

“It was a free show. I was supposed to do 10 minutes and ended up doing almost an hour.

Everybody knows my rule about getting on stage and startling me when I’m performing,” Burna Boy stated.

“I had an amazing time with Lagos State last night. Don’t jump on my stage like that! I got PTSD. I love you all. Happy New Year.”

PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder, is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event.

Burna Boy’s candid acknowledgment of his struggle has drawn mixed reactions online, with some fans expressing sympathy and others urging him to handle such situations more calmly.

The Lagos Countdown concert remains one of the country’s biggest end-of-year events, attracting top-tier performers and thousands of fans.

Despite the incident, Burna Boy’s extended performance was praised by attendees who described it as electrifying.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by artists who must navigate personal health issues while engaging with fans in high-pressure environments.

As conversations around mental health continue to grow, Burna Boy’s openness may encourage greater understanding of PTSD and the need for personal boundaries.
