The Lagos State Ministry of Health says 29 deaths and 579 cases have been recorded since the beginning of the cholera outbreak two weeks ago.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi said this during an ongoing press briefing on Monday.
He explained that the death rate was due to patients being presented late at the hospital or brought in dead.
He added that no case had been reported in schools.
“For the past two weeks, we have recorded 29 deaths and 579 suspected cholera cases. The 29 deaths was caused by patients being presented late that we couldn’t resuscitate them.”
Recall that LagosPost reported that the commissioner on June 11, 2024, Abayomi, warned that the state had recorded a high report of severe gastroenteritis cases, especially in communities around Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Ikorodu, and Kosofe Local Government Area of the state.
