A network of 47 youth organizations in Nigeria called Arewa Youths Alliance for Progress and Development (AYAPD) has expressed its displeasure over the ongoing scarcity of premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as gasoline, and demanded that those to blame be looked into and guilty parties or organizations prosecuted.

In locations where it is available, certain unpatriotic Nigerians, according to AYAPD, are selling gasoline for more than N250 per litre.

They also added that the present price is far higher than the subsidized rate and is, thus, unacceptable.

In a statement jointly signed by Engr Jamilu Shittu Dunkuwa and Comrade James Ishaku as chairman and secretary respectively, the group said the present circle of the scarcity was officially attributed to the flooding in Lokoja, Kogi State, which blocked the major road that links Southern and Northern Nigeria but that several weeks after the flood has vanished and harmattan dusty breeze blowing, the situation has remained the same, if not worse.

“Surprisingly, the energy crisis became well pronounced when we noticed that filling stations owned by the NNPC Ltd were not dispensing fuel. For instance, virtually all the former Oando stations they recently acquired don’t have the product. If NNPC itself doesn’t have fuel, who else will?”
