New Ajax signee, Chuba Akpom has been named the Professional Football Association (PFA) Championship Players’ Player of the Year award following his outstanding performance with Middlesbrough last season.
The Nigerian-born forward led the goal chart with 28 goals in just 40 appearances, beating off new Bayern Leverkusen signee, Nathan Tella, who scored 17 goals while on loan at Burnley in their return to the Premier League.
Other players in the category include Burnley’s Josh Brownhill, Sheffield United’s Iliman Ndiaye, Luton’s Carlton Morris and Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres.
Also at the 50th PFA Awards held at the Lowry Theatre, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka won the Young Player of the Year award for his performance with Arsenal last season.
Meanwhile, Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland beat Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane and Martin Odegaard to win the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.
Haaland scored 36 goal in 35 matches to secure the third Premier League title for City.
Nigerian superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, performed at the award ceremony.
