The Lagos State Building Control Agency has demolished illegal, haphazard, and non-conforming structures at Obalende in the state’s Ikoyi/Victoria Island Local Council Development Area.

This was revealed in a statement titled ‘LASBCA removes illegal structures in Obalende’ on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the exercise was carried out, in order to rid the state of the it’s continuous building collapses.

An abandoned two-story building collapsed outside Haruna Bus Stop in the Ikorodu district of the state two days ago, killing a local.

Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of LASBCA, revealed at the demolition exercise on Wednesday that the structures were demolished to restore sanity to Obalende and to prevent collapse, which might result in the loss of life and valued property of the citizens.

Oki argued that despite repeated meetings with developers who promised to make changes, nothing was done, leaving the Agency with no choice but to demolish the structures, which were built in violation of state construction codes and laws.

“The Government will not leave any stone unturned when it comes to building control regulations in the State, as contraveners of the State Building Laws will face the full wrath of the Law, to serve as a detriment to others that plan to engage in similar acts in future,” the statement quoted Oki as saying.
