The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Toyin Oke-Osayintolu has said many adolescents and young people in Nigeria do not have access to essential health care services.
Oke-Osayintolu said this during her keynote address at the 23rd Biennial Conference of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Lagos Branch.
Speaking on the theme of the event; “Investing in Adolescent and Young People’s Health, Education, and Well-Being,” the Perm Sec said the Nigerian adolescents are vulnerable.
She said they encounter issues connected to their overall well-being, such as poverty, discrimination, violence, abuse, and exploitation without receiving help most times.
Furthermore, Osayintolu said that these have a substantial impact on their emotional and physical health.
“The Ministry of Youth and Social Development has continued to provide an enabling environment for youths,” she said.
