A Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute Metta Lagos State on Monday remanded a man, Jegede Folorunsho, 54, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl in the Mushin area of the state.
Folorunsho was charged with defilement of the minor before Magistrate O.M. Ajayi.
According to the police prosecutor, Paul Ugorji, the crime violated Section 137 of the Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015 Criminal Law.
The charge reads, “That you, Jegede Folorunsho, on October 4, 2023, at No 4 Adegbite Lane, Mushin Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile one girl (name withheld), a minor of eight years, by having carnal knowledge of her and thereby, committed an offense punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
However, the defendant’s plea was not taken.
The magistrate granted the police’s application and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
Magistrates Ajayi further directed that the DPP be consulted for legal guidance on the case file.
The case was adjourned till December 15, 2023, for a report on the DPP advice.
