A tanker explosion has killed five people in the early hours of Wednesday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The victims were reportedly burned beyond recognition during the incident which occurred at Tunji Alegi filling station in the Kwakyama area, Ogere in Ogun State.
A petrol tanker crashed into another truck, spilled and exploded in flames killing at least five people.
About five vehicles were similarly burned in the explosion.
Florence Okpe, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
Okpe said a tanker collided with another truck causing fire to break out.
The FRSC public education officer blamed the tanker’s driver for a “wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving.”
She revealed that the corpses of the victims recovered from the crashed trucks were deposited at a morgue in Ipara, Remo North Local Government Area.
“A total of five persons were burnt beyond recognition.
“They were recovered from one of the crashed trucks and have been deposited at FOS Morgue Ipara.
Further updates soon,” She said.
Okpe said to avoid a secondary crash, traffic on the route were diverted, adding that commuters should be calm and cooperate with traffic managers.
