The Lagos Division of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday convicted and sentenced a 37-year-old man, David Ndirmbola, to one year imprisonment for drug trafficking.
Mr Ndirmbola pleaded guilty to a count charge during re-arraignment before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba.
He was first arraigned before Justice Peter Lifu. Mr Ndirmbola had equally pleaded guilty before Mr Lifu.
However, Mr Lifu was later transferred from Lagos, and the case was re-assigned to Dimgba.
Following Mr Ndirmbola’s guilty plea, the court reviewed the facts of the case, with NDLEA counsel, Ifeoma Erondu, tendering several exhibits, which the court admitted.
Ms Erondu then urged the court to convict and sentence him based on his guilty plea and the evidence presented by the prosecution.
The court sentenced Mr Ndirmbola to one year imprisonment beginning from the date of his arrest.
According to NDLEA, Mr Ndirmbola committed the offence on October 6, 2023, at Aboki Estate in Ikate, Lagos State.
NDLEA said he dealt in 1.1kg of Cannabis Sativa (hemp) without lawful authority.
The offence contravenes the provision of section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004.
