The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Lagos State.
Having satisfied the provisions of the electoral act and the constitution,
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, declared Sanwo-Olu the winner of the election.
Sanwo-Olu won the election by a landslide, defeating Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who came second.
The Lagos State Governor polled 762,134 votes to beat Rhodes-Vivour, who scored 312,329.
While the incumbent governor cleared 19 out of 20 LGAs, his opponent, Rhodes-Vivour, won in only one LG, Amuwo-Odofin.
Jide Adediran (Jandor) of the PDP came a distant third, polling 62,449 votes.
Oladiji who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, said, “I declare that Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, having satisfied the requirements of the law by having 25 percent of the total of the LGAs of the states and also having the highest number of votes cast and meeting the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner. ”
