Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area (LGA) has empowered 250 market women in the council with N50,000 each to improve their businesses.

The LGA Chairman Usman Hamzat gave the money to these women at the launching of the Ifako-Ijaiye Traders Support Fund (TSF) in association with YouLead Africa, a non-governmental organization (NGO).

He said that the empowerment of market women, the elderly and the young was one of the pillars of his administration, which emphasised that the youths and market women of Ifako-Ijaiye should position their minds to give and not to always want to take.

“The plan is to make sure that before our four-year term expires, we have been able to empower about 2000 market women who have actually benefited through YouLead Africa. Ten of the market women will be paid monthly to boost their business if their business excels,” Hamzat added.

The LGA has also launched the Ifako-Ijaiye Games in association with The Meade Company Ltd.

Hamzat stated that the LGA is ready to create and sustain opportunities for sports development.
