The Badagary West Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has given out 100 free General Certificate of Education forms (GCE) to indigent students willing to take the examination.

The forms were distributed to the beneficiaries by the council chairmen, Joseph Gbenu, in Badagry on Tuesday.

Gbenu urged the beneficiaries to focus on their studies and other productive ventures rather than making stipends from menial jobs.

The Chairman also encouraged the students to pursue scholarships for education and work towards achieving a profitable future.

“I advise that as young men do not to be carried away by the stipends you are earning doing some menial jobs on the borderline.

“This can not last forever, education is the best legacy you can bequeath to your children and the nation at large.

“Face your studies and be determined to be successful,” he said.

Gbenu urged the students to study hard and excel in their examinations.

He noted the intention to make the initiative an annual event.

“It is our own way of giving back to the society, hence encouraging the less privileged students and parents who could not afford to purchase the forms.

“If you have education, you’ve everything as it is the bedrock of human development.

“School life is just for some time, don’t use the little period in school to destroy your future after making it to the university,” he said.

The council boss added that he had constituted a committee to organise bursary disbursement for all the students for their sustenance and education.

Miss Mary Wus, a beneficiary of the form, promised to do her best to come out with flying colours in the examination which she considered the best way to encourage the government.

Another beneficiary identified as Yusuf Rasheed stated that taking the GCE examination this year would have been difficult without the intervention of the council.

He prayed for blessing and wisdom for the chairman to promote good leadership.
